Meet our Makeup Artist

Get to know Glamour Dollz Makeup Artistry’s resident Makeup Artist, Linda Anand.

Q: When did you know a career in beauty was for you?

When I was younger, I was obsessed with beauty and makeup. I always did makeup for my friends and family for events and then when it came time to find an artist for my own wedding I struggled to find someone who would do the makeup the way I wanted. It was then I realised that I could become a Makeup Artist. I was very luck to have the support of friends and family as I ventured into my new career in beauty and once I got my first taste of makeup in the “professional world”, I was hooked.

Q: What part of the face do people have the most questions about?

Skin. The number one question I get asked the most is how do I make my skin look flawless, how do I get that celebrity glow, all those tips and tricks for getting that perfect complexion.

Q: Are there any beauty tips that we hear over and over that drive you crazy?

Yes, matching foundation to your face. Your face is always lighter than your body. You have to match your foundation either on the lower part of your neck or your collarbone so that your face and body are one tone.

Q: What is the easiest way to turn a day/work look into a night look?

By changing up your eyeliner. Simply lining your inner waterline with a dark eyeliner will add instant drama. Just make sure that the eyeliner is waterproof or meant for the waterline, no one wants that dreaded panda eye. Also adding some colour to your lips is another way to change your look from day to night.

Q: What is your number one item in your kit?

My brushes. An artist is only as good as the tools they possess and a good arsenal of brushes is a must.

Q: What has been the biggest challenge of your career?

The biggest challenge has been wanting to do EVERYTHING. I always wish I could clone myself so that I could do every photoshoot and bridal appointment for work and be a full time mum. Certainly finding a good balance has been the key.

Photoshoot: Megan Popelier Shoot 2

Continuing on from my last post, the second shoot I worked on with Megan Popelier Photography featured the beautiful architecture of Brisbane’s Customs House. Dresses were again provided by The Babushka Ballerina and modelled by Shana Delaney.

Back in May I had the pleasure to work with an up and coming photographer named Megan Popelier Photography. The concept for the shoot was based around a commercial called “Vanderbilt Swan”. The idea of beautiful dresses being blown in the wind surrounded by amazing architecture in Brisbane, how could I say no. Megan wanted to create a series of images and here is a sample of the first series featuring dresses from The Babushka Ballerina being modelled by Kayleigh Douglas.

Top Tips for Perfect Wedding Day Beauty

Want to look picture perfect on your wedding day? Our resident Makeup Artist Linda Anand, reveals her five easy tips for wedding day beauty.

  1. Use waterproof eye makeup. Most brides cry at their weddings. Even if you don’t think you’re the crying type, with so many waterproof products out there, why take a chance?

  2. Use a long-lasting lipstick. When they first came out, most were dry and not suitable for a day-filled with close-ups and endless congratulatory kisses. But the new generation wised up with separate color and moisturizer. Apply the color once at the beginning of the day, and remoisturize a couple of times to keep lips luscious and picture-perfect. Practice several times as it can be tricky to apply the color evenly and perfectly. It’s hard to remove, so you’ll want to get it right on the first application.

  3. Employ a “spot checker”. This could be your maid of honor or another person whose makeup style is similar to your own (your mother is another good candidate.) Ask them to keep an eye on you and let you know if you need a touch up. They might also do you the favor of stashing your lipstick in their purse for easy access.  Stash backups. Stake out the bathrooms or changing facility at the venue. Stash an emergency kit including power to beat down shiny noses, clear nail polish to repair stocking runs, a hairbrush, hairspray, lipstick, and a sewing kit, along with anything else you think you or your bridesmaids might need.

  4. Do a test run. Make sure you test out beauty products several times – you wouldn’t want to find out the morning of your wedding that you’re allergic!

  5. Relax!  A relaxed bride is a beautiful bride. A wedding succeeds as long as you end up married at the end of the day. Every thing else is just gravy.
